Heading to Cape Cod from Long Island

We will be heading to Cape Cod from Long Island this summer.

Can anyone tell me the best way to get to the Cape from Long Island?

How bad is the drive?

Should we try and ferry it most of the way?

Have never been to either location so unsure the best way to make the destinations work.
