Due to its close proximity to the fertile fishing grounds of Stellwagen Bank, it is not uncommon to see whales right from the beach!

However, if you want to guarantee whale sightings, be sure to book a trip on a whale watching cruise.

Once a thriving fishing port whose population fluctuated with the price of fish, Provincetown is now a mecca for the arts.

Its population consists mainly of writers, artists, actors, and of course tourists. There aren’t any town beaches and therefore, no beach stickers.

Herring Cove Beach

Herring Cove is located on the western side of Provincetown, making it a great place to catch a Cape Cod sunset.

The unspoken rule here is that the left side of this Cape Cod beach is reserved for the gay population while the right side is for families.

Race Point Beach race point beach

Race Point is one of the most popular Cape Cod beaches in Provincetown.

Race Point is one of the raw, untamed beaches of the Cape Cod National Seashore.

Here you can find the sandy dunes and dune grasses that these Cape Cod beaches are known for.

Due to its close proximity to deep water, you may see whales, seals and all sorts of gamefish all in the same day from this beach.

Race Point features the cold water and big surf of the Atlantic, so be sure only to swim in the lifeguard protected areas.

If you own a 4WD vehicle, you can purchase a ORV permit from the Province Lands Visitor Center located on Race Point Rd, giving you 4WD access all the way to High Head in Truro.

There is also Cape Cod beach camping allowed.

Race Point is also our top choice for Cape Cod dog friendly beaches!
